Wenger relaxed over lack of Arsenal spending power
Arsenal Arsene Wenger Manchester City Marouane Chamakh Arsene Wenger insists Arsenal are serious Barclays Premier League title challengers despite lagging behind their rivals when it comes to transfer spending. Manchester City have splashed out £80million on four players so far this summer in a bid to break into the top four and secure Champions League football. The Gunners, in contrast, have spent just £8.5million on defender Laurent Koscielny while Moroccan striker Marouane Chamakh moved to the Emirates on a free transfer. "I am very confident [we'll do better than last season]," the Frenchman told the club's website. "We know in England that the Premier League is the biggest league in the world and everybody invests a lot of money. "We invest in our work, in our beliefs, in the quality of our behaviour and I am confident that will pay off. "We finished third last year and we hope we can improve on that - but the race will be tough."   Need your Arsenal[...]

Premier League Season Preview: Sunderland
With the Premier League season now rapidly approaching, I have decided to take a look at each of the 20 sides that will be playing at the top level of English football during this upcoming season. To start off my countdown, I have decided to actually go in reverse order, with Wolverhampton starting off the list and Arsenal concluding it right before the start of the Premier League season. In the sixth part of this series, I will look at Sunderland , who finished 13th last year under Steve Bruce and had Darren Bent, who finished third in the Premier League in goals with 24. Review of Last Year After barely avoiding relegation the year before, Sunderland was able to put together a great performance in the Premier League after the arrival of Steve Bruce to become the team's new manager during the summer from Wigan. After Bruce came Darren Bent from Tottenham, who was nothing short of spectacular throughout the season. Now, Sunderland will be looking to continue to move forward this[...]

Arsenal Transfer News: Sol Campbell Leaves Team...Again
Confirmation came through yesterday that Sol Campbell has elected to play for Newcastle next season. Campbell signed a one-year contract there, effectively ending his second spell as an Arsenal player. Technically, Campbell ceased to be an Arsenal player about four weeks ago when his contract expired; however, rumours have circulated that he might have been willing to sign with the club again after his honeymoon, and given Arsenal's current shortage of defenders, and the excellent contribution Campbell made in the second half of last season, it's disappointing that he hasn't done that. Never the less, his decision is completely understandable, and if regular football is his aim then it's probably the right move. His new wife is from the Newcastle area as well, so you can see why it's a desirable move for him. Campbell rejoined Arsenal back in January, signing once again on a free transfer. At the time, Arsenal were riding their luck with the central defence position.[...]

Fabregas torn over future
The Arsenal skipper is thought to be keen on a move to the Nou Camp, having gone through the youth system there before being snapped up by the Gunners at the age of 16. The 23-year-old admits Barcelona have his heart but says he can not ignore his commitment to Arsenal, claiming he has a strong connection with Gunners manager Arsene Wenger. "I'm a Barca fan, I'm a socio, as is my grandfather, my uncle, my cousin.. . I have felt the colours from a young age, I'm Catalan," he told magazine DIR Emotions. "However, I'm the captain of Arsenal, I'm a 'Gunner', and I have become a player there and matured as a person." When asked about his relationship with Wenger, he said: "He is a second father for me, the most important person in my life after my father. He has behaved really well with me and taken me in like a son. I am part of his family."  "He doesn't want me to leave. And in my last conversation with him in London, it was one of the most difficult[...]
