City have acquired the considerable talents of Toure, David Silva and Aleksandar Kolarov during the transfer window, while they are also closing in on Inter Milan's Mario Balotelli, and many expect the Eastlands side to challenge for the Premier League title this season. Amid increased speculation about a potential transfer to Manchester City, Fernando Torres should turn down their overtures. Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has admitted he is fighting a losing battle to keep Torres at Anfield and City now look set to test the water by making an offer for the Spanish ace. City have already signed Jerome Boateng, Aleksandar Kolarov, Yaya Toure and David Silva this summer but there is still cash to spend and Mancini wants Torres on board if a deal can be struck. Agreeing a fee will be the hardest part but Mancini is expected to make his move over the coming week. "Torres is one of the best strikers in Europe and is already playing in the Premier League for three years and knows it very well. But it depends on his situation - his price and whether he wants to come," he said. "There are two or three strikers that we could go for, but it is the same situation as it is with James Milner. First there is the price and then it depends if the players want to change team. Until today, Liverpool haven't bought many players."

Valencia president Manuel Llorente remains adamant that Spain forward Juan Mata will not leave the Mestalla this summer, with the club having already agreed to exits for David Villa and David Silva.. .
