English Premier League Previews: Week 25 Saturday Games
Liverpool vs. Everton The last time David Moyes saw his team lose was against no other than Liverpool 0-2 back at home. Since the defeat, the Toffees have been unbeaten for nine league games and they look to get revenge when they visit Anfield this weekend. Rafael Benitez is still without the likes of Fernando Torres and Yossi Benayoun, but without the two instrumental players, the Reds have performed extremely well, not that they could have gotten any worse! Although the Evertonians have lost just two of the last possible fifteen points, Liverpool on a good day at Anfield are dominant and David Moyes’ men might taste their first defeat since November. Hull vs. Manchester City The Tigers are coming off of a surprise result of the season, drawing with Chelsea. They don’t face a better opponent this weekend, unfortunately, as they go up against a Manchester City side that has shown glimpses of dominance as of late. The much anticipated debut of Patrick Viera[...]

Kuyt took up the slack as Liverpool stars faltered
Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt admits that he has felt the burden of responsibility in the injury-enforced absences of many of his team-mates. The Reds have been without Fernando Torres and Glen Johnson for several games, while captain Steven Gerrard has only recently returned from a latest fitness setback in a troubled campaign. Kuyt has had to fill in for star striker Torres and has scored three goals in as many games to leave him one away from his 50th for Liverpool, but the Dutchman has felt the pressure. "Of course you feel a responsibility. Everyone in the team feels a responsibility and it is very hard when you are missing your best players," he said. "We have missed Torres for a while, Stevie (Gerrard) couldn't play every game and Glen Johnson has a bad injury, it makes it very difficult. "Any other team, Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City, would struggle as well, but you can't think about this. "You have to try to do it with the players who are fit at the[...]

Liverpool boss Benitez: Babel can be like new signing
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has told Ryan Babel to get his head down and rescue his Anfield career. Babel had offers from several clubs last month, but chose to remain with Liverpool as the winter market shut on Monday. “When people talk too much about players maybe leaving and it then gets into the head of the player they are talking about, it is not easy,” said Benitez, who signed Babel in the summer of 2007. “It’s difficult to stay calm and keep working hard but that is what you have to do. You have to be ready. Now the transfer window has finished, it is important for everyone. “We can all focus again. Ryan was able to play the other day and he got some minutes as a striker, in the position that he likes. In the last couple of days, he has been training better and maybe he will be like a new addition for us.”   Check out Liverpool star Fernando Torres losing his rag with the director in a Pepsi commercial shoot:

Arsenal ace Cesc: I do not collect Porches or act like superstar
Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas insists he's just a normal guy. Cesc is confident he relates well with the average Gunners fan and says it's important he stays grounded. He told AS: "I am normal. "There are all kinds of players. Some act like superstars. One might say that others are just normal guys who enjoy playing football. "Then there are those who collect Porches and Ferraris. Others have their feet on the ground and are closer to the public. Everyone is different, there is no archetypal football player."   Check out Liverpool star Fernando Torres losing his rag with the director in a Pepsi commercial shoot:

Arsenal captain Cesc: I will tell teammates to wind neck in
Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas says he has no problem reining in teammates if they get too cocky. Cesc admits shouting at his teammates doesn't come naturally, but he will do so if needed. "I hate to give specific instructions, but sometimes it's necessary," Cesc told AS. "For example, if I see a teammate who does not pass because he would prefer to do everything and be the star, that makes me angry and I'll talk to him. "I also try to motivate when a colleague is wrong. I try not to lose my spark, we are always focused and motivated."   Check out Liverpool star Fernando Torres losing his rag with the director in a Pepsi commercial shoot:

Agent denies Liverpool pre-contract for Jovanovic
The agent of Standard Liege striker Milan Jovanovic denies a pre-contract has been signed with Liverpool. Liverpool had hoped to beat the rush for his signature by reaching an agreement in January, but could be about to see those efforts come to nothing. "There are many possibilities," Jovanovic's agent Zoran Stojadinovic told Superdeporte. "The situation will be resolved soon, but he has not signed for any club as yet."   Check out Liverpool star Fernando Torres losing his rag with the director in a Pepsi commercial shoot:

Real Madrid president Florentino goes cold on Arsenal boss Wenger
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has given up his dream of prising Arsene Wenger away from Arsenal. On no less than three occasions has Wenger rejected Perez's advances during his two spells as Real president. Sport says now, with Real moving ahead with a Galacticos policy, Perez has come to the realisation that Wenger's philosophy is simply not a good fit for his club. Indeed, Perez would take either Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez or Inter Milan's Jose Mourinho ahead of the Frenchman if they were available this summer.   Check out Liverpool star Fernando Torres losing his rag with the director in a Pepsi commercial shoot:

Liverpool are eyeing teenage Danish prospect Alexander Jacobsen. The Daily Star says Liverpool are hoping to bring 14-year-old Danish forward Jacobsen, who is at FC Copenhagen, into their academy. Jacobsen, the son of an Egyptian father and Danish mother, has for some years amazed fans with his play in Denmark and his goals. Man Utd boss Ferguson leaves Hargreaves off Champions League list
Manchester United have left Owen Hargreaves off their Champions League list. The Times says United boss Sir Alex Ferguson’s decision raises fresh doubts about the player’s chances of returning to action this season. Hargreaves has been sidelined for the past 16½ months after having operations on both knees to cure chronic tendinitis that has restricted him to 25 starts for United since his projected £20.2 million move from Bayern Munich in July 2007. Ferguson, the United manager, claimed last week that he hoped to have Hargreaves available for the first leg of his team’s Champions League round-of-16 tie away to AC Milan on Tuesday week. But the decision to replace him with Ritchie de Laet, a 21-year-old full back who has made only four starts, in the revised 25-man squad submitted to Uefa this week for the Champions League knockout phase is a worrying turn of events for United and England.   Check out Liverpool star Fernando Torres losing his rag with the director[...]

Liverpool owners must drop price to convince investors to buy
Liverpool co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett must wind back their asking price as they seek new investors. The Guardian says the Americans' ambitious plan to sell off two separate 12.5% stakes in Liverpool for £50m apiece has no takers at that price. Other interested investors are in talks but Gillett and Hicks must first give ground on how big a stake they are prepared to hand over, which is by no means a given. The co-owners had better get used to it, though: with £300m needed to build a new stadium it is likely not to be the last time their holdings are watered down.   Check out Liverpool star Fernando Torres losing his rag with the director in a Pepsi commercial shoot:

Liverpool boss Benitez: Babel rumours unsettled everyone
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez believes they'll be better as a team with the winter market now shut. Benitez reckons speculation over some of his players, including Ryan Babel, affected their form in the first-half of the season. He said: "We had another clean sheet last week, and that is a positive. "The players know we are improving. We are doing much better in defence but we have to improve in attack. "If Steven Gerrard is fitter he will play better and that makes a massive difference. "And if we play without the speculation surrounding Ryan Babel, it will be easier."   Check out Liverpool star Fernando Torres losing his rag with the director in a Pepsi commercial shoot:

Man City aim to outgun Liverpool over Athletic Bilbao star Martinez
Manchester City are determined to outgun Liverpool in the battle for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javi Martinez. The Daily Mail says the 21-year-old midfielder has been impressing in La Liga, and reports in Spain suggest City boss Roberto Mancini is prepared to meet the £26m buy out clause in his contract. Bilbao paid £5.2m for the player when he was just 17, and he helped the Basque club to last season's Spanish Cup final. City are keen to further strengthen their midfield, as they look to further improve, and Spanish newspaper AS reports that Martinez could be on his way to Eastlands later this year. Liverpool were reported to have been interested in signing Martinez last summer as a replacement for Xabi Alonso, but the move never materialized.   Check out Liverpool star Fernando Torres losing his rag with the director in a Pepsi commercial shoot:

Benítez says Liverpool can scale heights
• Steven Gerrard still working towards match fitness• Ryan Babel can play important roleIt may feel like a different era to Liverpool but Rafael Benítez believes his side will recapture the form that pushed Manchester United close in last season's title race once Steven Gerrard and company have returned to full fitness.Liverpool approach Saturday's Merseyside derby with Everton unbeaten in six league games and with the defensive deficiencies that have plagued this campaign replaced by five clean sheets during that sequence. Despite taking maximum points against Champions League qualification rivals Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur in that period, Liverpool's attacking play has underwhelmed. Fernando Torres is still a month away from a first-team return but Benítez is confident the improving fitness and form of Gerrard, plus the arrival of Maxi Rodríguez from Atlético Madrid, will help Liverpool rediscover the style that produced the first title challenge[...]
