| Spain U19 Star Ezequiel Calvente Scores The Greatest Penalty of All Time |
Unless you are a fan of Real Betis or the Spanish U19s, chances are that you haven't heard of Ezequiel Calvente. But you should, because he just scored the greatest penalty of all time.Spain and France meet in the final of the UEFA U19 European Championships on Thursday, in a match between the two undoubted best teams in the competition. Both are built upon young stars who are already building frightening reputations in their respective countries. And while Sergio Canales of Real Madrid and Liverpool's Daniel Pacheco may be stealing most of the limelight, and quite rightly, from the rest of his bewilderingly brilliant Spanish compatriots, it is Ezequiel Calvente of Real Betis fame who has shot to the fore with a goal that just beggars belief. The little known left sided midfielder has yet to play a competitive match for Betis' first team but has become an integral part of Spain's U19s as they marched towards the final in France.Having beaten Croatia and Portugal 2-1 each, La[...] |

| McGeady still a target for Spartak Moscow |
• Celtic winger reluctant to move from Parkhead to Russia • Glenn Loovens calls Celtic's defending against Braga 'a joke'Aiden McGeady's reluctance to move to Russia is to be severely tested, with Spartak Moscow showing no intention of ending their six-month pursuit of the Celtic winger. Spartak's technical director, Evgeniy Smolencev, is reported to have been in Glasgow for talks with Celtic officials this week. The Russian club have so far made only a verbal offer for McGeady, worth more than £8m, which is now set to be followed up formally.Celtic's chief executive, Peter Lawwell, was not in Portugal as Celtic crumbled to a 3-0 Champions League qualifying defeat to Braga yesterday. Neil Lennon, the Celtic manager, had said McGeady would play but the 24-year-old was a notable absentee from the squad in Portugal. That matter at least will please Spartak, who will take their place in the Champions League proper, given McGeady has not been cup-tied. He instead[...] |

| Defender deal collapses |
The Reds are desperate to bring in some defensive reinforcements, especially at left-back, following the soon to be completed sale of Emiliano Insua to Fiorentina and the exit of Fabio Aureilo. Hodgson had seen Young as a decent makeweight to come in and fill the void, with the two club's reportedly agreeing a fee and Villa allowing him to say at home to discuss a deal rather than join the rest of the squad in Portugal. However, Young's representatives and Liverpool failed to come to terms on an agreement and Hodgson will now turn his attentions elsewhere with Manchester City's Wayne Bridge and Wigan's Maynor Figueroa potential candidates. |

| Hell for Lennon's Bhoys in Braga |
The Bhoys, in Lennon's first European game in charge, were well beaten in Portugal and face a real uphill task in the return leg at Parkhead. Despite the 3-0 disadvantage, Lennon was defiant that his new-look side can turn things around back in Glasgow. "Some people may think the tie is over; we don't," he said afterwards. "We've got a good record at home, we've been in this position before and we'll just have to go and be at our very best next week." In better news, Celtic have announced the signing of Israel midfielder Biram Kayal on a four-year deal. The 22-year-old, who has won 13 caps for his country, joined from Israeli club Maccabi Haifa and is being tipped to play a key role in the SPL this season. |

| Bruce eases injury fears |
The England international striker sat out the Black Cats' 2-0 defeat to Benfica as they ended their pre-season tour of Portugal, prompting rumours the 26-year-old could be out for the opening game against Birmingham. Having scored 25 goals last season for Sunderland the last thing Bruce will want is to see his star striker sidelined for the first match. However, the Black Cats boss has played down talk of Bent missing the game against the Blues, claiming they decided to rest him because of a few minor problems. "Darren's fine, but he's got a couple of minor niggles and it wasn't worth risking him," he said in the Sunderland Echo. "The situation did at least allow us to experiment with a 4-5-1 formation and explore that. "It was a good game and it has been a good trip." Bruce has also dismissed speculation that Kenwyne Jones picked up an injury in the 2-0 defeat, claiming it was just a knock. He added: "He's twisted his knee a little, but he'll be fine." |

| Sunderland boss Bruce confident Bent, Jones fit for kickoff |
Benfica Sunderland Sunderland boss Steve Bruce says Darren Bent will be fit for the Premiership kickoff. The 26-year-old striker was forced to sit out the Black Cats' 2-0 defeat to Benfica on Wednesday, as they brought the curtain down on their pre-season tour of Portugal. "Darren's fine, but he's got a couple of minor niggles and it wasn't worth risking him," he said in the Sunderland Echo. "The situation did at least allow us to experiment with a 4-5-1 formation and explore that. "It was a good game and it has been a good trip." Bruce also revealed that a slight knock picked up by his other leading marksman, Kenwyne Jones, is nothing to worry about. He added: "He's twisted his knee a little, but he'll be fine."
