| Arsenal legend Wright fears season will be over in weeks |
Arsenal legend Ian Wright fears his old club's season will be over inside a month. In his column for The Sun, Wright wrote: "After managing just one point from a possible nine, Arsenal have proved they are no longer serious title contenders. "My worry is that within just a few weeks, Arsene Wenger's team will have nothing whatsoever to play for this season. "On March 9, Arsenal are at home to Porto in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie. "An exit from European competition would put even more pressure on not only Wenger but the board which remains unwilling to spend major money on revamping the first-team. "I'm sure Porto's scouts will have watched Arsenal's last few games and they'll probably fancy their chances." |

| Adelaide United hoping for good news in Brisbane’s van Dijk |
Adelaide United are this week hoping for some good news in regards to a loan deal for Brisbane Roar striker Sergio van Dijk. The Reds are looking to sign a quality striker prior to the Asian Champions League which kicks off on February 23 and the Dutchman has been closely linked with a short-term move to Hindmarsh Stadium. The deal hinges on the clubs interim caretakers, Football Federation Australia, signing off on a six-month deal and Adelaide football director Michael Petrillo said they are no closer to a deal today than when they were at the beginning of the week but are very hopeful. "We're still looking at two or three players to fill a striker's spot," Petrillo said. "We've got until February 17 to select our final squad. "We haven't made contact with the Roar yet (regarding van Dijk). "We hope to have some news in two or three days." If the deal goes ahead, it is likely that van Dijk will then join Sydney FC on a permanent deal once his Asian Champions League[...] |

| Hiddink shadow looms large over Mancini at Man City |
Guus Hiddink's shadow is looming large at Manchester City. The Daily Mail says City boss Roberto Mancini is reluctant to put down roots in Manchester because he knows he will be for the high jump in June if they fail to qualify for next season's Champions League. Failure to deliver that Champions League place will almost certainly end his stay in Manchester, with both him and the club believed to have a break clause in his three-and-a-half-year contract that will be reviewed this summer. That is the main reason why Mancini stays in a hotel. He refuses to buy a house or apartment and move his wife over from Italy until there is a guarantee of a more permanent future. In an interview in Italy, he said: "If I get an apartment, that means that fourth place is becoming reality. From there, I can really launch the true City project." City made overtures to Hiddink, as well as Jose Mourinho, before appointing Mancini, and the Dutchman’s name continues to come up among the list of[...] |

| Tottenham striker Crouch admits rejuvenated Liverpool a worry |
Tottenham striker Peter Crouch admits they're feeling the pressure from a resurgent Liverpool in their battle for a top four finish. Crouch admits Tottenham missed an opportunity to pull away from Liverpool earlier in the season and now need to prove again that they have the ability to keep pace with his former club. "There was an opportunity earlier in the season," said England striker Crouch. "We had a couple of draws and it was frustrating we couldn't pull away more. But I still feel we have enough ability. You look around the dressing room at the players who aren't playing and there is so much quality here. I still believe we have a real opportunity." After three seasons at Anfield, Crouch knows how dangerous Liverpool will be now they have edged back into the top four. "The previous seasons don't lie," Crouch said. "They have always been in the Champions League. They had a blip at the start of the season and people said other people can get in there but if I'm honest if[...] |
