Want the Fiver delivered direct to your inbox every weekday at 5pm(ish)? Then sign up today and forward it to your friendsA THRILLING BIG CUP DRAWNyon: city of contrasts. City of high-end hotel conferencing suites, but also high-end conferencing hotel suites. City of cufflinks, brown carpets and landscaped water features. City of sausage rolls, mini-spring rolls, stale and greasy prawn crackers and lavish, groaning all-day buffet trolley-tables. City of wonks, spokesmen and VIP gift-bags. And, this morning, city of draws too.Nyon is, of course, the home of the draw, a draw-based economy geared entirely around the periodic boom and bust of the Uefa junket: quiveringly expectant at all times, fanning its ceremonial plastic bowl G-spot, and ready to be jiggered and fumbled into throbbing life by the stubby fingers of Uwe Seeler, Emilio Butragueño or an overly hair-gelled man with a tie-clip. Today it was the turn of the Uefa Big Cup and Europa League draws to electrify the[...] |

Despite the worldwide success of the United States' women's national team, the women's club game has long struggled to gain a foothold in America. After the failed three-year experiment of the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA), which folded in 2003, a new women's league, Women's Professional Soccer, was launched in 2009. |

| Arsenio Erico Finally Comes Home To Paraguay, 32 Years After His Death |
 |
Thirty-two years after he was laid to rest in Buenos Aires, Arsenio Erico finally returned home to Paraguay. Thousands of fans showed up to pay tribute to the "greatest striker in Argentinian league history" as they celebrated his repatriation.Born in Ascuncion, Paraguay, in 1915, Erico made his name playing for Independiente in Argentina. He was spotted by Los Diablos Rojos after he traveled to Argentina with a Paraguayan Red Cross representative team in an effort to raise money for the country in the Chaco War.Amazingly enough, Bolivia and Paraguay are the only landlocked countries in the western hemisphere, and as a result any resource in the area is invaluable. In 1932, the Chaco War broke out between Paraguay and Bolivia over a stretch of land called the Gran Chaco region. It was believed at the time that the area was oil rich, and as such, was worth fighting over. The war was the bloodiest conflict in South America over the last 100 years and claimed the lives of over 100,000 soldiers.Over the[...] |

Press F5 for the latest or use the auto-update button below, then send barney.ronay@guardian.co.uk your thoughts on the draw11.25am Patrick Crumlish points out: "Lovely as it to see teams from six countries in the draw (and Michael Jordan should know Real haven't reached this stage in, what, seven years?), I'll be amazed if Barca or ManUSA don't win the competition." Don't under rate Bayern. They have a nice look about them. Damien Wims sighs: "Looks like the path is clear for Arselona in the final." And I thiank I know what he's talking about. And Joseph Matthews weeps: "oh dear I put my £10 on Asenal moments before the draw, not looking too clever now.. ."11.22 Cathal Nagal spots an easy passage for the champions: "Perfect draw for Barca!!! At home second at both stages. Too strong for Arsenal and CSKA and easily beat Inter last time out." I still don't think they will win it this year. No one has ever retained the Champions[...] |

| Oh no, now Riera’s gone berserk in training! |
 |
Riera - wants out?Deliberately attempting to get sacked isn’t as easy as it sounds. It’s a gradual process, which begins with a few late starts in a row, then slowly escalates through two hour lunches, flat refusal to attend meetings, then openly drinking pints at your desk. Even then, it might just be a written warning. That’s when [.. .] |

| Dempsey proud to be part of historic night for Fulham |
 |
Clint Dempsey says he's proud to be part of one of Fulham's greatest ever nights. The USA international struck Fulham's fourth goal against Juventus to hand them last night's Europa League tie 5-4 on aggregate. "It was a fantastic night, especially when you consider the fact a lot of people had already counted us out,” Dempsey told Fulhamfc.com. “It was a great performance and the players, the Manager and the coaching staff all deserve a lot of credit. “We took our chances and that was important. Bobby scored another brilliant goal, while Zolly showed his class with two great finishes, particularly the one from the spot. That set it up nicely for me, and I did what I needed to do. But without those strikes from the other guys, I wouldn’t have been in that position. “This was a great comeback and is without doubt up there in the Club’s greatest ever victories – and it’s amazing to have played a part in that.” Fans have got used[...] |

| Villa hero Bosnich hails influence of Freidel |
 |
Former Aston Villa goalkeeper Mark Bosnich has hailed the influence of Brad Friedel on this season's campaign. Aussie Bosnich is a big fan of the American, having first encountered Friedel while they both played at the 1992 Olympics. He told Villa's website: "Brad's appearance record is a super achievement but he has always been a very talented goalkeeper. "I can remember watching him play for the USA in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona when I was with Australia. I remember talking to my then-agent Graham Smith and saying 'this boy is really talented.' "He then arrived at Liverpool, had a bit of a tough time, but since then his form for Blackburn and Villa has been absolutely outstanding. "He is like a fine wine - as he's got older he's got better and better. Fair play, even when I first saw him he was very talented and he's developed brilliantly." |

| Chelsea target Donovan only thinking of Everton return |
 |
LA Galaxy captain Landon Donovan is adamant he will only return to England to join Everton. The USA international's form on-loan at Goodison Park has attracted interest from Chelsea. But Donovan says: "If I ever go back to England I would only ever want to play for Everton. "Playing at Goodison Park is very special and as much as there is talk about getting a new stadium there is something very special about playing in an old historic stadium like that. "Obviously you get caught up in what is going on and it is exciting to be a part of what I was just a part of at Everton," he explained. "You can't mirror that or duplicate that. If fate comes around and I am meant to go back there at some point then I will go back." |

| LA Galaxy captain Donovan: Moyes has established great culture at Everton |
 |
LA Galaxy captain Landon Donovan has heaped praise on Everton manager David Moyes. Donovan says the spirit inside the club is down to the influence of Moyes. The USA international said: "I was really impressed by David Moyes. Not only by the way he handled the team but by the way he handled everything around the Club. "Everton is a real family and you really want to play for him. To do that at that level and with that quality of players while continuously doing well with a much lower budget than some I think says everything about him." |

| Zebina hits out at Juventus away fans after Fulham humiliation |
 |
Jonathan Zebina turned on 'racist' Juventus away fans after last night's Europa League humiliation at Fulham. The French defender was sent-off for kicking out at Damien Duff and made a crude gesture towards some of the supporters as he walked off. “It was aimed at around 30 hooligans and racists who came all the way to London, travelling thousands of kilometres just to insult us,” said the defender. “Right from the warm-up they were already insulting me and Felipe Melo. I am sick of this situation. “I know I haven’t played much over the last few years, but that was not my fault and I am giving it my all now. “These people have got to stop. At the final whistle we received more applause from the Fulham fans than our own supporters. “I apologise for that gesture when I left the field and it certainly was not a good example to set to children. “Having said that, I really did not understand why I was sent off. After Fabio[...] |
