Anyway, poor old Phil Brown has had to apologise to the Women's Institute in Hull after Nick Barmby and Jimmy Bullard were involved in an altercation in a public park where Hull were training as 50-100 members of the WI marched past. Read the full story here. But what are Hull still doing training in public? Can't they get a training ground sorted? No wonder they're struggling on the pitch when they're running all over Hull to stay fit. Other news: The Football League has named the ex-Cable and Wireless chief executive, Greg Clarke, as its new chairman. Clarke succeeds Lord Brian Mawhinney and reckons he'll represent "all our 72 clubs". GR2.30pm: Has Martin Johnson ever said anything interesting or original? Here are the England coaches pre-match thoughts ahead of the trip to Murrayfield:"We only had ourselves to blame for the defeat to Ireland. To say we have to improve sounds insignificant, we have to find a way of winning Test matches. You don't like to lose but that is part of the team's experience now. We will be better for the Ireland game. To sit in a losing dressing room after a Test match is not what you do it for, is it?"Going away from home and trying to silence hostile crowds is what it is all about. It is like any away ground, the opposition will raise themselves. He must surely be in an inspirational figure in the dressing room, but his public persona is increasingly drab. Martin loaned out again
Captain Robbie Savage was forced to play in goal at Reading on Wednesday night after first-choice Stephen Bywater was forced off with a back injury and his replacement Saul Deeney was then sent off. Martin is expected to go straight into the Rams side while academy keeper James Severn could be on the bench if Bywater doesn't recover. The former England Youth international has not made a first-team appearance for Liverpool but has had loan spells at Accrington Stanley, Leicester City, Tranmere Rovers and Leeds United. He started as a trainee at MK Dons and is the son of former West Ham United and England defender Alvin Martin.

Bougherra dismisses transfer speculation
The 27-year-old has been in impressive form for the Gers since his arrival from Charlton in 2008 on a four-year deal, forming a solid partnership at the back with David Weir. He is set to star for Algeria, who are in the same group as England, at the World Cup finals in South Africa in the summer and there has been talk that he will move back south of the border next season. However, Bougherra insists he has enjoyed his time at the club and expects it to continue over the next two seasons. "I'm happy. Everybody asks me but I've two years left on my contract and am going to enjoy them. I hope I can win the title again," he told BBC Scotland. "At the moment I don't have this (the thought of leaving) in my head. When I signed for Rangers my life changed. "It's fantastic here for me and I hope to do it again next season."

Scott Stone, writing for bleacherreport.com, thinks United wouldn't be competitive without the American influence and should be thankful for them. He also reckons Sir Alex Ferguson should buy US produce such as Jonathan Spector, Jovan Kirovski, Jemel Johnson and Clint Dempsey. He's not joking either. You can read the full article in all its glory here, with thanks to Ciaran McCauley for flagging it up. It includes such gems as: "Freddie Adu of Benfica, currently on loan to Greece, is a Premiership move away [from] being in the headlines again. If any Premiership team gambles on Adu, shirts will fly off the shelves. Buy Adu, let him create goals in attacking football like in England." GR12.05pm:[...]

Man City winger Robinho: Santos move was right decision
Manchester City winger Robinho says his move to Santos on-loan has revived his career. Robinho has scored five goals in eight matches and puts his re-found goalscoring prowess down to his happiness. ''It was the right choice,'' said Robinho. ''I'm good physically and mentally. I hope to continue like this until the end of my spell at Santos. Where I have to be happiest is within the four lines of the pitch, and this is happening. ''I intend to continue for long. I hope that the board is already addressing this issue. You just have to look at my face to see my desire to stay at the club.'' Robinho has instructed City to take out another 12-month lease on his house in Manchester, suggesting he still intends to return to England next season.

The striker, who has missed the last three North End games and the England Under-21 international recently, was hoping to return to action at the weekend. "But I'm not overly optimistic about it."

Blackburn’s Salgado urges Real Madrid to go for Liverpool boss Benitez
Michel Salgado says Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez would be the ideal coach for Real Madrid. Former Real star fullback Salgado, now with Blackburn Rovers, admits he was surprised by Real's dismal performance in the second-half of their Champions League shocker against Lyon. Salgado believes the time could be right for Real to tempt Benitez away from Liverpool and back to Madrid. "He's as good an option as any that is on the market. In England, he is having a bad year," Salgado told Radio Marca.

Man Utd boss Ferguson insists Hargreaves ready to play
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson insists Owen Hargreaves can make his playing return in next week's reserves fixture. United officials confirmed on Wednesday night that the England international would not be involved in yesterday's game against Manchester City, as it interfered with his training regime. It seemed a strange explanation. And Ferguson has clarified the situation, pointing out that Hargreaves in fact went to see a specialist for the latest update. However, as the verdict was positive, Ferguson believes an end to Hargreaves' lengthy spell on the sidelines is in sight. "Owen went to see a specialist yesterday," said the United boss. "There is nothing wrong and the idea is for him to play in the next game. "He has to play in the next game because he is ready to play."

West Ham striker Cole: Leaving Chelsea was relief for me
West Ham United striker Carlton Cole admits it was relief when he was able to leave former club Chelsea. Cole comes up against Chelsea and former teammate John Terry this weekend. He told the London Evening Standards: “I had good days at Chelsea but not that many. My future is at West Ham now and I want to put one over Chelsea because this is my club. Everything happens for a reason. I always knew that, once I got games under my belt, I would learn and progress. “I'm at a happy place now but when I was there, I wasn't that happy. I wasn't maturing there and I was seen as the little boy. It can be hard when you come through the ranks at a club, although JT has handled it all well. “He came through the Academy there and has gone on to be a top England defender. For me, it was never as easy and I had to leave, to put down roots somewhere else. “I would train well all week and know I wasn't even going to be on the bench at the weekend. There were so many[...]

Neville delays Man Utd contract talks until summer
Manchester United captain Gary Neville will not consider new contract talks until the end of the season. Earlier in the campaign there were suggestions that the defender could retire in May, but after a solid display against AC Milan in the Champions League it has now been suggested that he is in England contention for the World Cup. Neville, though, does not want to speculate and is focusing on helping United in Europe and the Premier League. "There's nothing I really want to say on that," he told The Times when asked about his future. "I'll discuss it at the end of the season. "I play for United and try to play well and where that takes me then, who knows? But I'm not focusing on that (the World Cup)."

Bruce receives midfield boost
It looked as though the former England under-21 international had aggravated the hamstring injury that has kept him out in recent weeks in the 4-0 win over Bolton on Tuesday after being brought off with 20 minutes remaining. However, Cattermole has been passed fit for Sunday's visit of City, a welcome boost for Steve Bruce with Lorik Cana suspended, while Andy Reid and Jordan Henderson will not have shaken off their injuries in time. Bolo Zenden or Kieran Richardson could come into the Sunderland midfield in place of Cana with Bruce unlikely to change the rest of his side following the midweek win.

Capello: Man Utd, Arsenal or Chelsea in Champions League final great for England
Fabio Capello says a Premiership winner from this season's Champions League can lift England's World Cup chances. Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal are all still alive in the competition. Talking about English teams reaching the Champions League Final, Capello said: “Whoever wins in Europe will arrive at this important tournament with an extra energy. “We go there to win. I don’t agree with those who suggest that if English clubs progress in the Champions League that fatigue could have a negative impact on England in South Africa. “Remember that the psychological component is important.’’
