Irish bookmakers Paddy Power paid out to punters who bet on The Potters to go down in 2009, after their opening day 3-1 defeat at Bolton. However, Tony Pulis' men confounded the critics and stayed up comfortably, and this season are in 11th place with nine games to go. The Ireland international feels that the experience gained in a full season of top-flight football has helped Stoke to survive comfortably this year. "We have got more experienced, and learnt to deal with playing the top players every week. It means that it does not become such a big feat to play against them," he exclusively told Setanta Sports. "We have got through this year well. We are on 36 points now, twelve clear of the drop zone. We are no longer looking over out shoulders, but at catching those in front of us. It is quite strange for a team in their second season (in The Premier League after promotion) to be where we[...] |

| Man Utd beat Arsenal, Tottenham for ‘new Shay Given’ |
 |
Manchester United have swooped for the 'new Shay Given'. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has secured 16 year-old Irish goalkeeper Joe Coll to a three-year contract. Coll has already appeared on Ireland under-age teams and is tipped to be the third goalkeeper from Donegal to be the number one choice for the senior national team after Packie Bonner and Manchester City's Given. Arsenal, Chelsea, Wolves, Newcastle, Spurs, Manchester City and Celtic showed interest, but Sir Alex Ferguson convinced him his future lay at United. Coll told the Irish Independent: "He wished me good luck and success and he told me they were not signing me just for the sake of signing me but one day to become the number one at the club." |

However, just because he rules the roost north of the border Redknapp says he will not be staying there long term.He is due back at Spurs at the end of the season and Redknapp says he wants the player to be part of his squad again, despite the fact that the Glasgow side would love to keep him, while Aston Villa have also been heavily linked with a summer move for the much-travelled front man."I don't see us loaning Robbie out again," Redknapp was quoted as saying by the Scottish Sun."We paid a lot of money for him. So it's not something I see happening. It would[...] |
